The Gabba

The Gabba derives its name after the suburb upon which it sits, Woolloongabba. It is a 42,000 seat stadium roughly 5kms from the centre of Brisbane. The first cricket match was held on the site in 1896, with the first international match played at the venue in 1931 between Australia and South Africa.

The Gabba has hosted a number of different sports over the years, and is currently the host to the Brisbane Lions in the AFL, and the Queensland and Brisbane Heat cricket teams. The Gabba normally hosts the first test match of the international cricket season however this is currently under review. The Gabba has put its hand up to host day/night Test matches in the future in a bid to up the crowds.

Great stadium with plenty of pubs, bars, and restaurants around within shouting distance of the Brisbane CBD.
